About Monarch Mental Health Group

Monarch Mental Health Group is a psychiatrist-led Australian mental health care provider offering early access to innovative next-step services for depression, anxiety, and related mental health conditions.

In 2017, TMS Clinics Australia was founded by Doctor Ted Cassidy and Professor Paul Fitzgerald to help more people recover from mental health conditions. At the time, TMS therapy was not funded and was primarily accessed as an in-patient treatment. By creating a network of outpatient treatment services and partnering with health funds, we were able to make treatment more widely accessible.

After a years long campaign, we helped to overcome one of the last barriers to treatment by securing MBS funding, but our work is far from over. We have always known that to help the greatest number of people would require us to offer more treatment options. To more fully realise our purpose, we have transformed our organisation into a psychiatrist-led mental health service offering innovative treatment services for people experiencing depression, anxiety, and related mental health conditions. We are now known as Monarch Mental Health Group.

Our symbol, the butterfly, represents not only the patient journey, but the transformation of our organisation.

Dr Ted Cassidy
Executive Chair of the Board, Chief Medical Officer and Founder
Dr Ted Cassidy is Co-founder, Executive Chair of the Board and Chief Medical Officer of Monarch Mental Health Group. He has been delivering innovative mental health treatment services for over 20 years, including TMS.

Dr Cassidy has worked extensively since 2014 in the field of developing next-step mental health treatments for patients with depression, anxiety and related mental health conditions. Dr Cassidy previously founded and owned The Hills Clinic group and hospital, the first purpose built private mental health hospital in Australia. From 2004 to 2017 he was the Medical Director, during this time more than 10,000 patients with Mental Illness were assisted in the Northwest of Sydney.

Professor Paul Fitzgerald
Director of Monarch Research Institute and Founder
Professor Paul Fitzgerald is the Co-founder of Monarch Mental Health Group, and the Director of Monarch Research Institute. Professor Fitzgerald is an internationally recognised expert in novel treatments for mental health conditions, including the use of TMS.

Professor Fitzgerald is a qualified psychiatrist, and has a Masters of Psychological Medicine and research PhD.Professor Fitzgerald was an elected board Member of the International Society for Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (ISTS) and was an invited member of the World Federation of Biological Psychiatry Taskforce on Brain Stimulation (2006-2009).

He is currently a committee member for the Electroconvulsive Therapy and Neurostimulation Special Interest Group with The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP), and serves on the board of directors for Neurosciences Victoria. He is Psychiatric deputy editor for the journal ‘Brain Stimulation’ and is on the Editorial Boards of ‘Psychiatry Research’ and the ‘Australian and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry’.

As the head of the School of Medicine and Psychology at the Australian National University, Fitzgerald has conducted over 20 clinical trials of TMS and related methods, and has published over 500 scientific papers and has personally treated over 1500 patients with TMS.
